Beutler Research Group Extends Global Understanding of Systematic Treatment Selection at International Conferences

 

International Conference of the Asia Association of Indigenous and Cultural Psychology (AAICP), August 2015

 

Uichol Kim, Ph.D., distinguished research professor at College of Business Administration Inha University, Korea and founder of the International Conference of the Asia Association of Indigenous and Cultural Psychology (AAICP), invited Dr. Larry Beutler to make a keynote presentation at the 7th AAICP conference held August 24-26, 2015 at the Universitas Pdjadjaran in Bandung, Indonesia.

 

Dr. Beutler presented on the complex issues and erroneous assumptions about mental health interventions and introduced Systematic Treatment Selection (STS), a method of planning and implementing psychotherapy following evidence-based principles.  Dr. Beutler developed the STS approach with Bruce Bongar, Ph.D., ABPP, FAPM of Palo Alto University, and other colleagues, to increase the effectiveness of mental health interventions.

 

The STS system is an integrative psychotherapy model of particular interest globally because it addresses ways to move beyond nationality or ethnicity, and it can optimize a treatment's impact by following evidence-based principles. Eight STS evidence-based principles are being tested  for cross-cultural validity.

 

In a separate session at the conference, Dr. Beutler's co-researchers Dr. Satoko Kimpara, Dr. Hannah Brunet, and Kathleen Someah presented on STS topics, including evidence-based principles, clinical training, and factors of functional impairment.

 

International Congress of Psychology 2016 Yokohama, Japan

 

Dr. Beutler was invited to present a lecture and symposium at the International Congress of Psychology (ICP)  held July 24-29, 2016 in Yokohama, Japan.

 

More than 8,000 psychologists gathered from all over the world in order to discuss new developments in the science and practice of psychology. The theme of the conference was "Diversity in Harmony: Insights from Psychology."

PAU'S Sakoto Kimpara, Ph.D. also participated in the conference. She is a member of the program committee  and organized the contributions from PAU.
