Mothers and Babies Course deployed in Tanzania and Kenya
A mothers and babies course originally developed by Ricardo F. Muñoz and colleagues at UCSF is now being offered to mothers in Tanzania and Kenya. The program them identify and manage stressors, which can be significant for young mothers in this region. They typically marry young and care for their children, husbands and in-laws while struggling under economic hardship.
Studies have shown that adult depression is a major public health concern in the developing world. Parental depression can manifest in an inability to bond with the baby, poor monitoring of a baby's health and nutritional needs, and lack of early stimulation. Mothers who learn mood regulation skills forge stronger bonds with their babies and are in a better position to meet their child's needs.

A Tale of Horror and Hope from a Rwandan Genocide Survivor
Consolee Nishimwe was a teenager during the Rwandan genocide of 1994. She is the author of the book "Tested to the Limit: A Genocide Survivor’s Story of Pain, Resilience and Hope" in which she narrates her personal story. In a moving video, Nishimwe reads excerpts from her book as singer,songwriter and activist Emily Cavanaugh performs her song "Dark Was The Night."
Standing in the Gap
The Gap Fengcheng Children's Home in Fengcheng, Liaoning, China, provides a home and parenting care for orphaned children and children who were abandoned because of a handicap. It was founded by a former investment banker from South Korea who is a PAU M.A. Counseling student.
